03.18.2010 RRFD Awarded Grant The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded the RRFD an Assistance to Firefighers' Grant (AFG) in the amount of $158,267.00 + a required district contribution bringing the total to $175,852.00. The grant will be used to upgrade Self-contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), purchase ten sets of turnout gear and fund the installation of fire protection systems in two fire stations. 06.30.07...RIDGEWAY STATION OPEN Located along the Ridgeway Avenue corridor between Route 390 and Long Pond Road, the NEW Ridgeway Station is now OPEN and manned 24/7. Ridgeway Avenue is also a major road to the western and most remote portions of the fire district. With the direct accessibility to this route, our response and service to the growing residential communities in this area is greatly enhanced.
RRFD celebrated the grand opening of this new fire station on June 29th. Home to Engine 254 and Quint 250, Ridgeway Station will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the community. We invite you to stop by and take a personal tour of the facility and learn more about the services we provide.

09/03/2005... Two Officers and Six Firefighters were deployed to the Gulf Region for a period of thirty days to assist FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security with various duties in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
09/01/2005... The district will be soliciting bids to replace E-252 by years end with a spring, 2006 delivery date.
09/01/2005... The District continues the process of constructing an additional fire station in the Ridgeway Avenue/Long Pond Road section of the district.
09/01/2005... The Board approved the 2006 Budget Appropriations. The tax rate for 2006 will increase 8% over 2005. The new budget includes the addition of four firefighters and replacement of the roof at headquarters. .
09/01/2005... The District conducted interviews for an open Public Safety Dispatcher position. Mr. Brian Bennington was appointed to the position, effective August 18. .
08/01/2005... The District received Accredited Agency status during the International Association of Fire Chiefs Conference in Denver, Colorado. .
06/01/2005... A Peer Review Team from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International spent four days in the District conducting an assessment of the administration and operations of the District. .
05/01/2005... The District, after completion of a district wide audit by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), had its rate classification upgraded from a four to a three. This is a significant achievement for the district and will result in lower fire insurance rates for residents and businesses. Only 2.6% of the fire departments in the country achieve this classification. .
04/01/2005... The District has been notified by Assemblyman William Reilich that a grant, in the amount of $7,500.00 has been secured for the Districts matching grants program to place AED’s in commercial and professional buildings within the District. 04/01/2005... Eight people completed and graduated from our 4th class of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). This is a program sponsored by the Federal Government. It teaches people to help people in their time of need. Congratulations to each of the participants. Completing the class was a student from Aquinas Institute who used the program as part of her required, Participation In Government Program.
03/01/2005... After submission of proposals to provide ambulance service to the fire district, a three year contract was awarded to the Monroe Ambulance Service.
03/01/2005... The Honor Guard of the Ridge Road Fire District was again asked to lead the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
03/01/2005... At the annual Awards and Recognitions Banquet a number of people were recognized for their contributions to the successes of the organization in 2004. Members of the Honor Guard, Car Seat Safety Technicians and the Accreditation Committee received the Group Commendation Award. Captain Paradiso, Russotti, Firefighters McCabe and Coia received individual commendations. Community Recognition was given to Senator Robach, Assemblyman Reilich and Supervisor Auberger.

01/01/2005... The Insurance Services Organization (ISO) notified the District that, effective May 1, 2005 the District’s Public Protection Classification will be improved to a “3”. Countrywide, only 2.6% of fire departments achieve this classification.
01/01/2005... Six students, seniors at Aquinas Institute and Olympia HS completed their required Participation In Government Program with us. Each student earned their American Heart Association CPR certification and also learned how to use an AED.
12/22/2004... Commissioner Charles Richardson has been elected to another five year term as a member of the Board of Fire Commissioners.
12/22/2004... The Accreditation Committee has completed their work. All information has been submitted for review of the National Accreditation Board. Next step, an Assessment Team will spend a week with the district administration.

10/13/2004... Senator Joseph Robach has announced a grant award, in the amount of $5,000.00 to the Ridge Road Fire District, 1299 Long Pond Road. The grant will be used to begin a complete upgrade of the computers and associated system presently used by the district.
10/13/2004... Assemblyman William Reilich has announced a grant award, in the amount of $3,500.00 to the Ridge Road Fire District, 1299 Long Pond Road. The grant has been used to purchase water and ice rescue equipment. Within the fire district there are numerous ponds and the Erie Canal which have the potential for the use of such equipment.
10/13/2004... The Ridge Road District has been awarded a $109,000.00 Federal Grant through the Department of Homeland Securityís Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. The Fire District will use the grant to install a mechanical vehicle exhaust system in its headquarters station, located at 1299 Long Pond Road. In addition, funding was provided to replace the twenty five year old ěHurstî rescue tool. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program was begun in 2002 to assist local first responders to update stations and equipment used by it personnel. Congress appropriated more than $750,000,000 in 2004 to this program.
