We're Go'n PINK to support Breast Cancer Awareness again!

This October marks the 26th anniversary of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Ridge Road Fire District along with the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester are teaming up to raise awareness of Breast Cancer.

Firefighters plan on recognizing the month by exchanging their regular duty shirts for blue T-shirts with pink writing. The shirts will be worn for the entire month of October to remind everyone about getting a mammogram, ensuring early detection, diagnosis and treatment.

Our involvement in the Breast Cancer Awareness Month could not have been possible without the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester being a partner with us and providing information and education about Breast Cancer.

According to the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester, “Breast Cancer is a serious health problem in New York State, with more than 12,000 new cases and 3,500 deaths reported each year. Breast cancer represents over 28% of all malignancies among women. It is the number one cause of death in women between the ages of 30 and 54. At this time, one in eight women can expect to be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Currently, Monroe County ranks among the highest for all new diagnoses of breast cancer in New York State”.

“The statistics are shocking, but if you think about it, most of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer and we want to do our part to get the word out,” says Ridge Road Fire District Chief Bud Phillips.

Again this year starting on Friday October 7th and going from the entire month of October the Ridge Road Fire District Firefighters will be selling a new designed Breast Cancer Awareness T-shirt for $10 dollars with all proceeds going to the Breast Coalition of Rochester.

To order your shirt please call 227-2124 or you can stop at our Headquarters Fire Station at 1299 Long Pond Road to purchase a shirt starting on October 7th.
